Stress.
Individuals and families experiencing a stress inducing
event or crisis, such as a divorce, an adoption, or a relocation, can
mitigate the negative effects by addressing these issues in a therapeutic
setting. At Nassau Suffolk Counseling Services you will meet with mental
health professionals whose clinical interventions can help you to reduce
the harmful effects of a family crisis and the impact it can have on
it's individual members.
We
have developed a system of working closely with individuals, couples,
and families to promote a healthy transition into a new way of living.
Through therapeutic interventions, we help our clients identify their
life stressors and develop coping strategies. We utilize insight oriented
and cognitive behavioral therapies, as well as provide psycho-education
to promote a supportive atmosphere so that our clients gain acceptance
of and control over their issues.
Parenting
Coordination.
Parenting Coordination is the process that assists separated
or divorcing couples in reaching agreements on the issues important
to the emotional health and well-being of their children.
At
Nassau-Suffolk Counseling Services, we begin by helping parents realize
that while they may disagree, they share at least one common goal –
the safety and emotional stability of their children. We work with to
develop a parenting plan, which addresses such topics as visitation
schedules, school functions, medical issues, social gatherings, vacations,
and most importantly, parental roles and responsibilities. The result
promotes equity amongst the parties and minimizes the emotional cost
to the family.
Forensic
Evaluation.
A Forensic Evaluation consists
of a series of face-to-face interviews, collateral contacts, psychological
testing, as well as a diagnostic component. The purpose of such an evaluation
is to offer a professional recommendation regarding an individual’s
capacity to parent children during and after a divorce. Evaluations
can be either court-ordered or privately requested.
